Profile

Jeff Lee is a graduate of SooChow University where he obtained his LL.B. in 1996 and LL.M in 1998. He was called to the Taipei Bar in 1996 and gained admission as a licensed Patent Agent in 1997. He was previously with a shipping law firm in Taiwan and had been in-house counsel to a large semiconductor company before joining JTJB-Taipei. 

Mr. Lee’s main field of concern at the firm is on shipping, aviation, insurance, commercial, and civil disputes. He has represented some of Taiwan’s major underwriters in a number of marine and fire related cases and has acted for terminals and claimants on an array of aviation matters. This includes his representation of a number of passenger claimants in the SQ006 air crash at Taiwan in 2000. Mr. Lee specializes in the carriage of goods, international trade, insurance regulation and handles most of the work concerning “dry” shipping at the firm. 

He is the permanent legal counsel to a number of shipowners, insurance companies and marine surveyors in Taiwan. He is constantly appointed by the biggest Cargo Insurance Underwriters in Taiwan. He is retained counsel for a German Freight Forwarder in Taiwan.

He acted for various foreign clients in the high profile "Kien Hung" bankruptcy matter which involved an arrest and sale exercise on assets and subsequent compensation negotiations that bore very positive results for the clients. He was also appointed by foreign debtors in the first Far Eastern Airlines company restructuring application. His latest works includes acting for a Norwegian liability underwriter in a case involving an action at the Kaohsiung Courts against an extremely long string of defendants down the chain of causation for cargo damage, acting for the largest global   container shipowner for a highly disputed matter involving cargo refrigeration, and acting for the largest cement company in Taiwan on a matter concerning crew claims.

Jeff's collaboration with Daryl Lai is locally recognized as the most formidable shipping law team in the domestic Taiwanese market. He has co-written the fourth, fifth, and sixth edition of the Taiwan Chapter of the Shipping Law Review with Daryl.

Besides transportation and insurance matters, Jeff Lee advises clients on a wide range of commercial matters covering licensing, loans and commercial contracts. Jeff also has extensive experience handling matters regarding professional negligence.
