Profile

James Hung is a graduate of National Taiwan University where he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in 1996 and then LL.M from National Taipei University in 1999. Mr. Hung got another LL.M from Durham University (UK) in 2008 and an EMBA degree from National Cheng-Chi University in 2018 afterward. He was called to the Taiwanese Bar in 1998 and gained admission as a licensed Patent Agent in 2003. He was also called to the Chinese Bar in 2011. He was previously with a patent law firm, a business litigation law firm and a commercial law firm in Taiwan and had been in-house counsel to several domestic and international listed companies before joining JTJB-Taipei.

James has been involved in a wide range of legal fields within the domain of business law, which includes intellectual property rights, securities litigation, mergers and acquisitions and labor issues. James represented several giant Japanese Consumer electronics players (“SONY”, ”SEGA”) and US companies (“Pfizer”) in anti-counterfeit and other intellectual property disputes. James is also familiar with securities fraud of criminal violations and civil liabilities cases. James is further involved in many corporate law issues, which includes cross border mergers and acquisitions, initial public offerings, convertible bond issuance, employment disputes, debt recovery, trade secret disputes and risk management for high technology and traditional industries. 

James had been in-house counsel to a major Taiwan listed company and an US NASDAQ listed company. He has rich experiences working with people from different culture backgrounds and functions and provides not only legal advice but also business advice via a systematic thinking process with a good understanding of the needs of clients with timely and professional advice.

James has in dept knowledge in issues concerning Directors' Criminal Liability. He represented the main Defendant in the highest publicized group of cases in 2015-18 i.e. the "Ting Hsin Oil" cases concerning various criminal allegations of public fraud, criminal health violations etc., on suspected oil products sold to the public masses in Taiwan. He also defended the "UMC", one of the largest semiconductor foundries in Taiwan against allegations made on criminal breach fiduciary duty in the famous Republic of China, Taiwan v. UMC and He Jiang Technology case. He recently represents one of the major e-commerce platform concerning cross-border financial crimes and breaches of the Banking Act. He advises clients with regulatory issues in fintech industry.

James is admitted to practice in both Taiwan and China.
